Skipback

Skipback is a band project that was founded in the fall of 2024 following the initiative of Arthur Kohlhaas and Lukas Heckers. Their goal was to pursue a shared fascination with UK bass music, breakbeats, and experimental electronic sounds in the context of na innovative musical format. Their influences include artists such as Aphex Twin, Lorraine James, Squarepusher, and Sophie.

Initially, the duo focused on developing independent productions and realisations for live or studio performances. A profound exploration of British DJ and club culture of the 1990s and 2000s serves as the central foundation and primary inspiration.

Sound design and sequencing are at the heart of Skipback's sonic aesthetic. However, the aim is not to perform studio productions exactly on stage or to replace a DJ set, but rather to create an abstraction of the sound language of club music.

Improvisation and interaction on various instruments make all this possible and unique, resulting in a stylistically sound yet individual musical vocabulary.
